At Nottingham Kitchen Fitter, we love making kitchens that stand out. Our custom kitchen door styles can change your whole kitchen look without needing to rip everything out and start over.

I'm Michael, and me and my team have been making custom doors for Nottinghamshire homes since 2010. We know what works in local homes - from the tiny terraces in The Park to big family houses in West Bridgford.

What Our Custom Kitchen Doors Can Do For You

If your kitchen works fine but looks tired, custom doors are perfect. One of our customers in Arnold told us: "I thought we needed a whole new kitchen, but Michael suggested just changing the doors - saved us thousands!"

Our customers love that they can get:

  • Doors that fit weird-sized cabinets
  • Styles that match their home's age
  • Colours that aren't just white or cream
  • Quality that won't fall apart in a year

Traditional Door Styles

Lots of homes in Nottingham have character, and they need doors to match. Our traditional styles work great in older houses.

The Shaker style is super popular in places like The Park and Lace Market. It's got a simple frame and flat centre panel. We can do different edges and details to make them match your house style.

For the really old houses near Nottingham Castle, we make raised panel doors that look like they've always been there. We've done them for houses built in the 1800s, and people love how they blend in.

Beaded designs are another option - they have a little groove that catches the light. Great for cottages and Victorian places.

"We bought a house in the Park Conservation Area and wanted a kitchen that respected the house's history. The beaded panel doors Michael made look amazing!" - Trevor B, The Park

Modern Door Options

If you live in one of the newer flats near Victoria Centre or the modern houses in Ruddington, you might want something more up-to-date.

Handleless doors are really popular right now. No handles means clean lines and a smooth look. We've put these in tons of flats and new builds across Nottingham.

Flat panel doors with high-gloss finishes look super smart. We did a whole kitchen in West Bridgford last month with grey high-gloss doors, and it totally transformed the space.

J-pull doors are handy - they have a groove you can pull instead of a handle. Loads of our customers in Arnold and Carlton are choosing these.

Feature Door Designs

Sometimes you want some doors to stand out. Glass doors show off your nice things, and we can do frosted, clear, or patterned glass.

Open frame styles with no centres look great for showing off colourful dishes or glasses. We did these for a family in Mansfield who collected teapots - looks brilliant!

Accent doors in different colours are getting popular. We just did a kitchen in Beeston with all navy doors except for the island, which was oak. The contrast looks amazing.

Custom Design Process

When you work with us, we make it simple:

  1. You come see us or we visit your home in Nottingham or nearby
  2. We talk about what you like and look at samples
  3. We measure everything precisely (this is where most big companies mess up)
  4. We draw up designs and show you what it'll look like
  5. You approve materials and colours
  6. We make your doors right here in our Nottingham workshop
  7. We fit them properly - no gaps or wonky bits

"Michael spent ages measuring our odd-sized kitchen units from the 1970s. The new doors fit absolutely perfectly!" - Sandra, Carlton

What Materials We Use for Custom Doors

We use several different materials depending on what you want and your budget:

  • Solid wood - oak, maple, walnut for the posh houses in West Bridgford
  • Painted MDF - great for coloured doors and doesn't warp like cheap wood can
  • Vinyl-wrapped - budget-friendly but still looks smart

Our wood comes from good places where they plant new trees. No dodgy rainforest stuff.

Customisation Options

When we say custom, we mean it. You can choose:

  • Any size - we've made doors for 200-year-old cabinets with weird measurements
  • Special cutouts or paneling styles
  • Fancy edge details
  • Matching end panels and plinths
  • Soft-close hinges (these are amazing, no more slamming)

One family in Ruddington had a corner cabinet that no standard door would fit. We made a curved door that looks amazing and works perfectly.

Colour and Finish Choices

We can do any colour. Seriously. We've matched paint to curtains, favourite mugs, and even a customer's cat (it was a lovely grey).

Popular colours in Nottingham right now are:

  • Dark blues and greens
  • Warm greys
  • Off-whites (not stark white)
  • Natural wood tones

For finishes, you can have matt, semi-gloss, high-gloss, or a textured finish that doesn't show fingerprints (great if you have kids).

Custom Style Case Study: Victorian Home near Nottingham Castle

The Smiths bought a Victorian terrace near Nottingham Castle and hated the 1990s kitchen. But they didn't have £15,000 for a full new kitchen.

We created custom Victorian-style doors with beaded panels and brass cup handles. The doors were painted in a heritage green that matched the original tiles they'd uncovered.

The whole job cost just £3,200 and transformed their kitchen completely. Their neighbours have all asked for our number!

"We thought we'd be stuck with an ugly kitchen for years until we could afford to replace it. These new doors made it look like a completely new kitchen for a fraction of the price!" - James Harding, Nottingham Castle area

Period-Appropriate Guidance

If you live in a period property (and Nottingham has loads), getting the right door style matters. We know what fits different eras:

  • Georgian homes (like some in The Park) - raised panel doors with symmetrical designs
  • Victorian (common in Lace Market) - beaded frame doors with decorative panels
  • Edwardian (found in West Bridgford) - simpler designs but still with character
  • 1930s semis (all over Arnold) - Shaker styles work well here

We've worked on listed buildings and in conservation areas, so we know the rules about what you can and can't do.

Typical Turnaround Times

We don't like keeping people waiting. Most custom door orders are:

  • Designed and approved in 1-2 weeks
  • Made in our workshop in 2-3 weeks
  • Fitted in 1-2 days

We can work faster if you're in a rush - we helped a landlord in Stapleford who needed new doors before new tenants moved in. We did the whole job in 10 days.

How Much Do Custom Kitchen Doors Cost?

We believe in being upfront about pricing. Custom doors typically cost:

  • Standard sizes in basic finishes: £60-90 per door
  • Custom sizes or special finishes: £90-150 per door
  • Feature doors (glass etc): £120-200 per door

A typical kitchen with 15-20 doors usually costs £1,500-3,000 total, including fitting. That's loads cheaper than a whole new kitchen!

We can work with most budgets - just be honest about what you can spend, and we'll be honest about what we can do for that.

What Kitchen Door Style is Best? Common Questions

What is the most timeless kitchen door style?

The Shaker style is probably the most timeless. It's been popular for over 100 years and still looks great in both modern and traditional homes. We've put Shaker doors in super modern flats near Trent Bridge and in 200-year-old cottages in Lambley, and they work in both.

How much extra do custom kitchen door styles cost?

Custom doors usally cost about 20-30% more than standard sizes. But when you're replacing just doors instead of whole units, you're still saving around 70% compared to a full kitchen replacement. For a standard 15-door kitchen, expect to pay around £2,000 including fitting.

What kitchen door styles add the most value to a home?

Estate agents in Nottingham tell us that Shaker styles in neutral colours add the most value. They appeal to most buyers. But if you're not selling soon, get what YOU like! One of our customers in Mapperley got bright yellow doors because they made her happy every morning.

Can custom kitchen door styles be made to any size?

Yes! We've made doors as small as 20cm wide for odd little cabinets and as tall as 240cm for pantry units. If your cabinets are an unusual size (common in older Nottingham homes), custom is the way to go.

What's the difference between shaker and inframe kitchen doors?

Shaker doors sit on the front of the cabinet, while inframe doors sit within a frame. Inframe looks more expensive and traditional, but costs more and gives you slightly less storage space. We've done both for homes in Nottingham - inframe is popular in The Park area, while Shaker is loved all over the city.

Which kitchen door styles work best in period properties?

It depends on the period! For Victorian homes (common in Lace Market and parts of West Bridgford), go for more detailed door styles with beading or raised panels. For 1930s semis (like in Carlton), simpler Shaker styles work well. If you're not sure, we can look at your home and suggest styles that match its character.
