Kitchen Cabinet Maker & Joiner Nottingham
We're not just fitters - we're proper woodworkers too. That's what makes our repairs so good. We know how cabinets are built from scratch because we've made hundreds ourselves.
Our Nottingham workshop has all the kit to make new doors, drawer fronts, or even whole new cabinets that match your existing ones perfectly. Hard to tell the difference when we're done!
When we do repairs, we use the same traditional joinery methods that were used to make your cabinets in the first place. No shortcuts. No bodges. Just proper repairs that last.
"My old oak kitchen cabinets had seen better days, but I didn't want to get rid of them. Michael's team fixed all the wonky doors, replaced a couple of damaged ones, and now they all match perfectly. Brilliant job!" - Sheila from Arnold
Our joiners have been working with wood for decades. You don't get good at this stuff overnight. It takes years of practice. When we fix your cabinets, we do it right.
How We Check Your Cabinets
First thing we do is come to your home and have a look at your cabinets. This is free - no charge. We need to see what's wrong before we can tell you how to fix it.
We check:
- How the cabinets are built
- What materials they're made from
- How old they are and what style
- What's damaged and what's just wear and tear
- Whether they're worth saving (most are!)
With 800+ kitchen projects under our belt, we've seen pretty much every type of cabinet there is in Nottingham. The old Victorian ones in houses near the Castle. The 1930s ones in Beeston. The 1970s ones in Arnold. We know them all.
Once we know what we're dealing with, we can tell you:
- If they can be fixed
- How much it will cost
- How long it will take
- Whether you'd be better off replacing them (we're honest!)
Most of the time, we can save your cabinets with a bit of work. And it's almost always cheaper than buying new ones.

How We Make Your Cabinets Beautiful Again
Restoring kitchen cabinets is a bit of an art. Here's how we bring them back to life:
Cleaning and Stripping
First we clean everything properly. Sometimes that's all that's needed! If the finish is damaged, we might strip it back to bare wood.
Repairs
We fix all structural issues - loose joints, broken bits, water damage. We use proper wood glue, dowels, screws, whatever's needed to make them solid again.
Refinishing
This is where the magic happens. We can:
- Match your existing colour and finish
- Give you a completely new look
- Hand-paint for a classic finish
- Spray for a smooth modern look
- Apply oils and waxes for natural wood
We've got loads of eco-friendly paints and finishes. Better for your family and the planet.
"Our kitchen cabinets were dark brown and made the room feel gloomy. Michael's team stripped and refinished them in a lovely sage green. They look like new cabinets but cost half as much!" - Eleanor from Carlton
We Know Old Cabinets Inside Out
Different eras, different cabinets. We know them all:
Victorian (1837-1901)
These are often proper pieces of furniture rather than built-in. Solid wood, dovetail joints, ornate details. Found in lots of homes in The Park and the Lace Market. We restore these sympathetically, keeping their character.
Edwardian (1901-1910)
Similar to Victorian but often lighter in colour and design. Found in places like West Bridgford. These respond really well to restoration.
Inter-war (1920s-30s)
Simple, solid cabinets are often painted. These are common in Beeston and parts of Carlton. Great candidates for a modern repaint.
Mid-century (1950s-60s)
Often teak or other exotic woods, sleek lines. We refinish these to bring back their retro charm.
Contemporary
Even modern cabinets can be restored rather than replaced. We can fix water damage, replace doors, upgrade hinges and drawer runners.
"Our 1950s kitchen had original cabinets that were still solid but looked tired. Michael's team restored them beautifully - they look straight out of a vintage magazine now!" - David from Sherwood

Case Study: Victorian Cabinet Restoration Near Nottingham Castle
We recently worked on a beautiful Victorian kitchen in one of the historic homes near Nottingham Castle. The cabinets were original - over 120 years old - but in a sorry state.
The Problems:
- Water damage to several lower cabinets
- Cracked panels in 3 doors
- Missing decorative mouldings
- Original finish almost completely worn away
- Doors didn't close properly
Our Solutions:
- Carefully disassembled the damaged cabinets
- Replaced rotten wood with matching reclaimed pine
- Remade the cracked panels using traditional methods
- Created new mouldings to match the originals
- Reset all the doors with new hardware that looked period-appropriate
- Applied a traditional oil finish that protected while enhancing the patina
"I was devastated when our original Victorian cabinets were damaged by a leak. Michael's team performed a miracle - you simply can't tell which bits are new and which are original. They even found period brass handles that match the originals. Outstanding craftsmanship." - Ronald from The Park area
Looking After Your Cabinets
Once we've restored your cabinets, you'll want to keep them looking good. Here are our tips:
- Wipe up spills straight away, especially near sink areas
- Use proper cabinet cleaner, not harsh chemicals
- Don't hang on open doors (the kids!)
- Get wonky doors and loose hinges fixed early before they cause bigger problems
- Consider our annual maintenance service where we come and check, tighten and touch up your cabinets
Nottingham's climate can be damp sometimes. This affects wood. We can advise on how to prevent moisture problems in your kitchen.
Answers To Common Cabinet Questions
Is it worth repairing old kitchen cabinets?
If the cabinets are well-built, then yes, absolutely! Older cabinets are often better quality than new ones. Solid wood cabinets can last 50+ years with proper care and occasional repairs. It's almost always cheaper to repair than replace, and it's better for the environment too.
How much does kitchen cabinet restoration cost in Nottingham?
It depends on what needs doing. Simple repairs might cost £200-300. A complete refinish of an average kitchen could be £1,500-2,500. Still way cheaper than new cabinets which could be £5,000-10,000. We give free quotes, so you'll know exactly what it'll cost.
Can water-damaged kitchen cabinets be restored?
Often, yes! We've saved many water-damaged cabinets. It depends how bad the damage is and how long the water was there. We assess the damage, remove any rotted wood, treat for mould, replace damaged sections, and refinish. The sooner you call us after water damage, the more likely we can save your cabinets.
What's involved in kitchen cabinet repair?
It varies job to job. Might be as simple as adjusting and tightening hinges, or as complex as rebuilding damaged sections, making new doors, and completely refinishing. We always explain exactly what we're going to do before we start.
How do I know if my kitchen cabinets can be restored?
Most can be! The key questions are: Are they solid wood or good quality MDF? Is the basic structure sound? Is any water damage limited? If yes to these, they can probably be restored. We'll tell you honestly if they're beyond saving.
Can kitchen cabinet doors be repaired if warped?
Sometimes. Slight warping can often be corrected. Severely warped doors might need replacing. We can make new doors that match your existing ones.
