A granite worktop is one of the biggest single choices in a kitchen refit, and it's worth getting right before any cutting starts. If granite turns out not to be the material for you, our full range of kitchen worktop materials covers everything from engineered quartz to Dekton, so you can compare options before committing to a slab.Every granite worktop we supply is templated, fabricated and fitted by the same team, working from a dedicated regional workshop rather than sending the job out to a third party. For a rough idea of budget ahead of your free consultation, our granite worktop price guide breaks down what actually affects the cost.
What's Included When You Book a Granite Worktop
- Free home template consultation, with precise measurements taken for the exact worktop shape, including any awkward corners or tricky joins
- Design discussion covering edge profile, splashback and sink or tap cut-outs before the template is finalised
- Slab cutting, shaping and edge honing carried out in-house on our own fabrication equipment
- Polishing for a seamless, even finish across the whole worktop
- Sealant applied before the worktop leaves the fabrication facility, to protect against staining
- On-site fitting with joints levelled and secured, and any excess material sanded down during installation
- An optional dedicated fitting service if you'd rather not install the finished worktop yourself

Not Included / Costed Separately
- Removal and disposal of your existing worktop -- ask about this when you book your consultation, as it depends on what's being replaced
- Ongoing resealing after installation -- granite needs resealing every few years to keep its stain resistance, and that's an owner maintenance task rather than a one-off included service
- Full kitchen cabinetry, plumbing or electrics -- this service covers the worktop itself; a complete kitchen fit-out with units, plumbing and wiring is handled by the wider design-supply-installation team as a separate project
- Rarer colours, thicker slabs and layouts with multiple cut-outs, all of which push the price above the entry per-square-metre guide
Granite Compared to Quartz, Marble and Dekton
| Material | Natural or engineered | Heat resistance | Sealing needed | Character |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Granite | Natural stone | Excellent -- safe for hot pans placed directly on it | Yes, resealed every few years | Unique veining and flecks, no two slabs identical |
| Quartz | Engineered (resin-bound stone) | Good, but avoid placing very hot pans straight on it | No | Consistent pattern, wide colour range |
| Marble | Natural stone | Good, but softer and more heat-sensitive than granite | Yes, more often than granite | Dramatic veining, classic look |
| Dekton | Engineered ultra-compact surface | Exceptional | No | Matte, uniform, contemporary finish |
Every Slab Is One-Off, So Is the Team That Cuts It
Granite is quarried, not manufactured, so every slab has its own colour run and mineral flecking -- what you see is what ends up on your worktop, and carrying that pattern through a sink cut-out or a mitred corner join is a skill that only comes from cutting the stone yourself, not from handing the job to whichever subcontractor is free that week. Our stonemasons lay your slab against the template before a single cut is made, so the vein flow reads the same across any joins as it would on one continuous piece. Granite is also harder to work than quartz -- it takes diamond-tipped tooling and a slower cutting speed to stop the edge chipping or cracking -- which is one reason the same in-house team stays with your worktop from templating through to fitting rather than

passing it between trades. That's part of the same business that's been designing and fitting kitchens across Nottingham and the wider East Midlands for over 20 years, with 800+ kitchens completed for local homeowners. Every job runs on a written agreement before work starts, a formal sign-off once it's finished, a 5-year guarantee on labour and installation and a 2-year guarantee on materials, and we're members of the Construction Industry Training Board and the Federation of Small Businesses.

Getting a Heavy Slab Safely From Workshop to Worktop
We fit granite worktops across Nottingham and the wider East Midlands from a dedicated regional workshop -- Greater Nottingham (West Bridgford, Wollaton, Beeston, Arnold, Sneinton), Nottinghamshire (Mansfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Stapleford) and Derbyshire (Derby, Long Eaton, Alfreton, Heanor), roughly 15-20 miles out toward Chesterfield and the Derbyshire border. A finished granite worktop is heavy -- a full run for a mid-size kitchen can take two people to carry safely -- so the home visit isn't only about measuring, it's also where we check access: a narrow hallway, a flight of steps, or a job across the river in West Bridgford or Wilford where delivery timing has to allow for crossing traffic at Trent Bridge. Sorting that out before the fitting date is what keeps the slab going in without a last-minute lifting problem on the day.
