What a Custom Door Order Covers
- Made-to-measure replacement doors and drawer fronts for your existing cabinets, including oversized, undersized or oddly-proportioned openings
- Matching end panels and plinths, so the finished run looks continuous rather than patched together
- Soft-close hinges fitted as standard on every door
- Your choice of solid wood, painted MDF or vinyl-wrapped construction, in any colour and in a matt, semi-gloss, high-gloss or textured finish
- Glass, frosted, patterned or open-frame feature doors where you want a display panel or a contrast run
- A measuring and design visit, followed by fitting once the doors are made in our workshop
Not Included / Costed Separately
- Cabinet carcasses, worktops and appliances -- this service replaces doors, fronts and end panels, not the units behind them
- Structural changes to the kitchen layout, plumbing or wiring
- Feature doors such as glass, frosted or patterned glazing cost more than a standard painted or wood door -- budget toward the top of the pricing tiers already set out on this page for these
- Guaranteed rapid turnaround -- the standard timeline runs several weeks from design approval to fitting; faster jobs are agreed case by case, not promised as standard
How a Custom Door Order Runs, From Measuring to Fitting
- Measuring and design visit -- We come to your kitchen and measure every opening individually rather than working from standard sizes -- important on older carcasses where a run of doors is rarely perfectly square. You choose the door style, material and finish against physical samples on site, not a screen.
- Specification and written agreement -- Door sizes, hinge positions, end panel matching and finish are set out in a written agreement with a fixed price before anything goes into production, so there are no surprises once the job is under way.
- Doors made in our workshop -- Each door and drawer front is cut, finished and pre-hung with soft-close hinges in our Nottingham workshop. This is usually the longest part of the job -- typically a couple of weeks, longer for bespoke glazed or textured finishes.
- Fitting on site -- Old doors and fronts come off and the new ones go on, checked against the original measurements and adjusted for alignment and gaps. For a typical 15-20 door kitchen this takes 1-2 days, not a full re-fit.
- Final check and sign-off -- Hinges and alignment get a last check once everything is fitted, and you get a formal sign-off along with the written installation warranty covering the guarantee period.

The Craftsmanship and Guarantees Behind Every Door
Every door and drawer front is cut and finished in our own Nottingham workshop rather than sent out to a third-party joinery -- that matters when a run of doors has to match a discontinued style, or when an opening is a few millimetres out of square because the cabinet behind it has been in place for fifteen or twenty years. Our cabinet makers trained through City & Guilds, so a mitred corner on a Shaker frame or a flush hinge line on a handleless door is cut to the same standard whether it's going onto a two-year-old kitchen or a carcass that's on its second set of doors. Across the 800+ kitchens we've fitted in Nottingham and the wider East Midlands over more than 20 years, a good number have come back to us years later for exactly this kind of refresh, so matching an odd panel size or an existing end-panel profile is something we do routinely rather than work out from scratch. The specification and price are fixed in a written agreement before any doors go into production, and the finished job carries a 5-year guarantee on the labour and installation and a 2-year guarantee on the doors and materials themselves.
Where We Make and Fit Custom Doors
Doors and drawer fronts are made in our Nottingham workshop, and where a job is means the style that tends to get asked for. In the Lace Market's converted warehouse flats, matte-black handleless doors on existing carcasses are one of the more common requests, usually replacing the pine or oak fronts that went in when those buildings were first converted. Out toward Wollaton, near Wollaton Hall and its deer park, panelled and raised-panel doors are still what most of the older housing stock calls for, while the Georgian and Victorian terraces of The Park regularly have openings that are slightly out of true -- one more reason we measure on site rather than working to standard sizes. We also fit regularly in West Bridgford, Beeston, Arnold and Sneinton, and take on jobs further out in Mansfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Stapleford, Derby, Long Eaton, Alfreton and Heanor. If your kitchen sits outside that area, get in touch and we'll confirm whether we can take the job on.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Much Do Custom Kitchen Doors Cost?
We believe in being upfront about pricing. Custom doors typically cost: Standard sizes in basic finishes: £60-90 per door Custom sizes or special finishes: £90-150 per door Feature doors (glass etc): £120-200 per door A typical kitchen with 15-20 doors usually costs £1,500-3,000 total, including fitting. That's loads cheaper than a whole new kitchen! We can work with most budgets - just be honest about what you can spend, and we'll be honest about what we can do for that.
What is the most timeless kitchen door style?
The Shaker style is probably the most timeless. It's been popular for over 100 years and still looks great in both modern and traditional homes. We've put Shaker doors in super modern flats near Trent Bridge and in 200-year-old cottages in Lambley, and they work in both.
How much extra do custom kitchen door styles cost?
Custom doors usally cost about 20-30% more than standard sizes. But when you're replacing just doors instead of whole units, you're still saving around 70% compared to a full kitchen replacement. For a standard 15-door kitchen, expect to pay around £2,000 including fitting.
What kitchen door styles add the most value to a home?
Estate agents in Nottingham tell us that Shaker styles in neutral colours add the most value. They appeal to most buyers. But if you're not selling soon, get what YOU like! One of our customers in Mapperley got bright yellow doors because they made her happy every morning.
Can custom kitchen door styles be made to any size?
Yes! We've made doors as small as 20cm wide for odd little cabinets and as tall as 240cm for pantry units. If your cabinets are an unusual size (common in older Nottingham homes), custom is the way to go.
What's the difference between shaker and inframe kitchen doors?
Shaker doors sit on the front of the cabinet, while inframe doors sit within a frame. Inframe looks more expensive and traditional, but costs more and gives you slightly less storage space. We've done both for homes in Nottingham - inframe is popular in The Park area, while Shaker is loved all over the city.
Which kitchen door styles work best in period properties?
It depends on the period! For Victorian homes (common in Lace Market and parts of West Bridgford), go for more detailed door styles with beading or raised panels. For 1930s semis (like in Carlton), simpler Shaker styles work well. If you're not sure, we can look at your home and suggest styles that match its character.
