What's Included When We Fit a New Worktop

Not Included / Costed Separately

  • Removing and disposing of your old worktop (we can do this under our registered waste carrier licence, priced as an add-on)
  • Disconnecting and reconnecting sinks, taps or appliances (our own certified plumbers can handle this, quoted separately)
  • Moving or adding electrical sockets for hobs or built-in appliances (our Part P approved electricians can do this if needed)
  • Extra cabinet reinforcement where a heavy stone or quartz slab needs additional support underneath
  • The sink, tap, hob or appliances themselves, unless they're part of a full kitchen supply and fit

From Template to Finished Fit: How the Job Runs

  1. Free home visit and quote -- We measure your kitchen in person, talk through material options and any layout complications such as islands, waterfall edges or multiple corners, then leave you with a written, no-obligation quotation.
  2. Design sign-off -- Using CAD and interactive floor-planning software, you see a photo-realistic view of your chosen worktop material, colour and edge profile before anything is ordered.
  3. Laser templating -- Once your base units are in and level, we take a precise laser template on site. This is the stage that decides how well a stone or quartz worktop will actually sit against real walls and corners, which are rarely perfectly square.
  4. Cutting and fabrication -- Slabs are cut, edge-profiled and cut out for sinks, hobs and taps in-house rather than sent to a third party, so quality and timings stay in our control.
  5. Delivery and fitting -- Heavy stone and quartz sections are moved and fitted by trained fitters and stonemasons, joints are sealed, and the worktop is levelled against your cabinetry.
  6. Sign-off and warranty -- You check the finished worktop with us before we leave, and every completed installation carries a written warranty as standard.

In-House Stonemasons, Not a Subcontracted Crew

A laser template only tells the truth if the person cutting the slab is the one who took it, which is why our own stonemasons handle the templating, in-house cutting and on-site jointing for granite, high-character Italian marble, quartz and tougher sintered surfaces such as Corian and Dekton, rather than your worktop being passed to a separate contractor once it leaves our workshop. Where new units are going in alongside the worktop, the carpentry comes from City & Guilds trained cabinet makers on the same team, so the joinery and the stone are fitted by people who've worked alongside each other all week, not two firms coordinating over email. We're a family-run business, trading for over 20 years across Nottingham and the East Midlands with 800+ kitchens completed, so you deal directly with the people cutting and fitting your worktop, not a call centre. Every job starts with a written agreement and no hidden fees, ends with a formal sign-off, and carries a 5-year guarantee on labour and installation (2 years on products). We're also members of the Construction Industry Training Board and the Federation of Small Businesses.

Where We Fit Worktops Across Nottingham and the East Midlands

We fit worktops across Nottingham and the wider East Midlands, working out from a dedicated regional workshop roughly 15-20 miles in every direction: Nottinghamshire towns including West Bridgford, Wollaton, Beeston, Arnold, Sneinton, Mansfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield and Stapleford, and into Derbyshire as far as Derby, Long Eaton, Alfreton, Heanor and Chesterfield, with occasional projects further out towards Wakefield, Sheffield and York. Older Nottingham properties, particularly Victorian terraces around the Lace Market, often have floors and cabinetry that have shifted slightly over the decades. That's exactly where an accurate laser template earns its keep, since a stone worktop cut to a wall that isn't quite square won't sit flush without one.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the most cost-effective durable worktop material?

Premium laminate offers the best balance of durability and affordability for most households. Today's high-quality laminates can last 10+ years with proper care while costing a fraction of stone alternatives.

How much should I budget for unexpected costs?

Add 10-15% to your estimated worktop budget for contingencies. This covers unexpected issues like additional reinforcement needs, complex cuts, or replacement of damaged cabinet carcasses discovered during installation.

Can I mix different worktop materials to save money?

Yes, combining materials strategically can create impact while controlling costs. Consider premium materials for islands or preparation areas, with more economical options elsewhere. This approach can reduce overall costs by 20-30% while maintaining design appeal.

Is it worth upgrading from laminate to stone worktops?

If you plan to stay in your home for 5+ years, stone worktops can be worth the investment for their durability and timeless appeal. For shorter time frames, high-quality laminate might offer better value, particularly in rental properties or starter homes.

How do worktop materials affect home resale value?

Quality stone worktops like granite or quartz can increase buyer appeal and potentially home value, especially in properties priced above £300,000. However, the return on investment varies by region and property type – consult local estate agents for specific guidance in your area.

What's the lifespan-to-cost ratio of different materials?

Laminate: 5-15 years (£10-40 per year of service) Timber: 10-25+ years with maintenance (£10-30 per year) Quartz: 15-30+ years (£15-40 per year) Granite: 20-50+ years (£10-25 per year) This calculation helps assess long-term value beyond initial price.

Are there seasonal discounts for kitchen worktops?

January sales and end-of-financial-year periods (March/April) often feature the best worktop discounts, with savings of 15-25% common. Additionally, ex-display models can offer savings of 40-60% if you're flexible on size and design.

How do I accurately measure for a new worktop?

For accurate measurements: Measure the length of each run at the wall and at the front edge Include any overhang in your calculations Measure the depth from wall to front edge in several places Note locations of all appliances and sinks Most suppliers recommend professional templating for stone worktops to ensure perfect fit.
