If you're fitting a fridge, dishwasher, washing machine or oven and want it built into the cabinetry rather than left standing as a separate box, that's appliance housing -- a cabinet made and fitted to the exact dimensions of the appliance, with ventilation, cable routing and plumbing worked out before the door ever goes on. We build housing as part of a full kitchen fit or as a standalone job dropped into an existing kitchen, working to the appliance you've got rather than a generic off-the-shelf size. If you're planning a wider refit rather than housing for appliances you already own, our kitchen fitted furniture page covers full cabinetry projects instead.
What's Covered When We Build Your Appliance Housing, And What Isn't
- Custom cabinet housing for full-size, under-counter and American-style side-by-side fridges and freezers
- Oven, microwave, warming drawer and integrated coffee machine housing built to the correct working height
- Dishwasher housing with a balanced door that opens and closes cleanly against the surrounding units
- Washing machine and washer-dryer housing, including stacked laundry units where floor space is tight
- Specialist housing for wine coolers, steam ovens, sous vide drawers and other high-end appliances
- Custom-built housing for vintage, oversized or non-standard appliances that don't match standard cabinet dimensions
- Ventilation gaps, heat-resistant materials and hidden cable and plumbing routing designed into every unit
- Plumbing connections for integrated dishwashers and washing machines, carried out by our own NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds qualified plumbers
- Gas hob or range connection and commissioning by a Gas Safe registered engineer, where the appliance needs it
Not Included / Costed Separately
- The appliance itself isn't included in the housing price -- you either supply your own or we can advise on models that integrate well, with the purchase priced separately
- A full kitchen refit or new carcasses throughout is a different job to appliance housing -- see our kitchen fitted furniture page if that's what you need
- Upgrading an existing electrical circuit that can't support a new integrated appliance is priced once we've seen what's actually running to your kitchen
- Moving a stud wall or extending a room to make space for larger housing is quoted separately from the appliance housing itself
Built-In, Semi-Integrated Or Fully Integrated: Spotting The Difference
| Style | How It Looks | Typical Cost vs Freestanding | Best Suited To |
|---|---|---|---|
| Built-in | Visible metal or glass front fitted into a housing unit | Lowest -- standard sizes, simpler housing | Ovens, microwaves and appliances where a feature front is fine |
| Semi-integrated | Control panel visible, the rest hidden behind a matching door | Mid-range | Dishwashers and washing machines where quick access to settings matters |
| Fully integrated | Completely hidden behind a door that matches the rest of the kitchen | Highest -- custom housing plus a matching door and hardware | Fridges, dishwashers and laundry appliances in open-plan or period kitchens where a seamless look matters most |
The Trades Behind Every Door We Hang
Appliance housing isn't only carpentry -- get the plumbing or electrics wrong and a beautifully hung door won't matter. Our cabinet making is done by City & Guilds trained master craftsmen, but the pipework behind an integrated dishwasher or washing machine is connected by our own NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds qualified plumbers, and any electrical work a new appliance needs is carried out by Part P approved installers with full safety certification. Where a gas hob or range is being integrated, that connection and commissioning is handled by a Gas Safe registered engineer, not a joiner working outside their trade. Once a housing unit is closed up, the pipework and cabling behind it are hidden, so a fault found later usually means taking the unit apart again to put right -- which is why we put the guarantee in writing rather than leaving it as a verbal promise: 5 years on labour and installation, 2 years on products, with a formal sign-off once the housing is finished and working. As a family-run business rather than a franchise, the people who measure your kitchen are the same ones who come back if a door needs adjusting or a hinge needs resetting.
Appliance Housing Across Nottingham, Nottinghamshire And Derbyshire
Most of our appliance housing work is in Nottingham itself, along with the towns and suburbs within roughly a 15-20 mile run of the workshop -- Mansfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield and Stapleford, Derby, Long Eaton, Alfreton and Heanor across into Derbyshire, and closer in around Wollaton, Sneinton, Beeston, Arnold and West Bridgford. The jobs that need the most careful measuring before anything gets built are usually the older kitchens: in terraces around Sneinton and the Lace Market, walls and floors were rarely built square, so a housing unit sized to a standard alcove can end up with a gap down one side unless we've taken our own measurements on site rather than working from a floor plan. Newer kitchens nearer West Bridgford or along the tram corridor through Beeston tend to have straighter cabinet runs, which makes fitting a side-by-side fridge or washer housing more predictable. We'll travel out as far as Chesterfield and the Derbyshire border for the right job, but it's the site visit, not the postcode, that tells us how much extra time an older kitchen needs before a housing unit gets built.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why Choose Integrated Appliance Housing?
Let's be honest - kitchen appliances can be ugly. Even the fancy ones sometimes look out of place next to your lovely cabinets. Integrated appliance housing solves this problem by hiding them behind matching cabinet doors. But it's not just about looks: Creates a cleaner, less cluttered kitchen Makes small kitchens feel bigger (a big plus for those Nottingham terraced houses!) Protects appliances from dust and damage Reduces noise (especially good for open-plan spaces) Adds value to your home (estate agents in Nottingham love to see integrated appliances) One family in West Bridgford told us their kitchen felt "twice as peaceful" after we integrated their noisy dishwasher and washing machine. Little things make big differences!
What's The Difference Between Integrated and Built-in Appliances?
This is a question we get all the time! Built-in appliances are designed to fit within standard cabinet spaces but typically have their own door or front panel that's visible. Think of a built-in oven or microwave with its metal and glass front. Integrated appliances go a step further and are completely hidden behind cabinet doors that match the rest of your kitchen. Your fridge, dishwasher, or washing machine fronts are covered with panels identical to your other cabinet doors. Semi-integrated appliances are a bit of both - usually the control panel remains visible while the majority is hidden behind a matching door. We can help with all three types, depending on what works best for your kitchen and budget.
How Much Does Integrated Appliance Housing Cost?
We won't lie - integrated housing costs more than leaving appliances freestanding. But it's less than you might think, and the value it adds to your kitchen (and home) is substantial. Basic integration solutions (like a simple dishwasher housing) start from about £350 including fitting. More complex units (like a bank of ovens or a large American fridge freezer) typically range from £800-£1,500. Full integration of all appliances in an average Nottingham kitchen usually falls between £2,000-£4,000, depending on the number of appliances and complexity. We're happy to provide a no-obligation quote for your specific needs. We're not the cheapest in Nottingham, but we're far from the most expensive, and we never compromise on quality.
Can Any Appliance Be Integrated?
Almost any appliance can be integrated, but some are easier than others: Easy to integrate: Dishwashers Washing machines Standard fridges and freezers Ovens and microwaves Wine coolers More challenging but possible: American-style fridge freezers Range cookers Commercial-grade appliances Vintage or non-standard sized appliances One client in Beeston had a vintage Smeg fridge they loved but that didn't fit standard dimensions. We created a custom housing unit that not only accommodated it but made it a feature of their kitchen. If you've got an unusual appliance, bring us the challenge. We love solving tricky integration problems!
Do Integrated Appliances Need Special Measurements?
Getting measurements right is absolutely critical for successful appliance integration. We need to know: The exact width, height and depth of each appliance Required ventilation clearances (these vary by brand and model) Door opening arcs and hinge positions Service access requirements Connection point locations Don't worry about figuring all this out yourself - it's what we do. If you've already got the appliances, we'll measure them. If you're still shopping, we can advise on models that will integrate well with your kitchen design.
