A worktop or cabinet door can look completely different once it's actually sitting in your kitchen compared with how it appeared on a screen or a paint chart - colour shifts under different light, a laminate that looked convincing in a photo can feel thin in the hand, and a stone worktop's veining only really shows once you're looking at a decent-sized piece rather than a 10cm swatch. Our material library exists to solve exactly that problem: more than 400 physical samples of cabinet doors, worktops, flooring and hardware, held at our Nottingham showroom for you to handle, compare side by side, and even scratch and stain-test before any decision gets made. It's also the starting point for a real kitchen, not a separate showroom exercise on its own - once you've settled on the materials that suit your home and budget, those exact choices carry straight through into your kitchen design and installation, so what you handle in the library is exactly what ends up fitted.
What's Included in a Material Library Visit
- Access to 400+ physical samples covering cabinet doors, worktops, flooring and hardware, all held at the Nottingham showroom
- Cabinet door samples in real wood, painted finishes, laminate, high-gloss and textured options, with working hinges to open and close
- Worktop samples in granite and other natural stone, quartz, solid surface, budget laminate and timber, sized large enough to judge pattern and texture properly
- Flooring samples in porcelain and ceramic tile, luxury vinyl, engineered wood, laminate and natural stone that you can walk on in the showroom
- Hardware samples including handles, taps, sink materials, pull-out storage fittings and finishes such as chrome, brass and matte black
- Use of the comparison area to test scratch, stain and spill resistance on samples side by side before deciding
- One-to-one guidance from Michael or Emma on matching materials to your property and budget

- The take-home service: up to 5 samples borrowed for up to 5 days against a small refundable deposit
Not Included / Costed Separately
- Browsing and borrowing samples is free, but the deposit is only refunded once samples come back - keeping or losing one forfeits it
- Samples show colour, texture and finish accurately, but natural materials like granite and solid wood vary piece to piece, so the exact slab or board is confirmed again before it's ordered
- Samples aren't posted out - the take-home service means collecting and returning them in person at the showroom
- The sample visit itself doesn't include supply, cutting or fitting - full material costs and installation are quoted separately once a kitchen design is agreed, which needs a site visit for accuracy

How a Showroom Visit and Take-Home Sampling Works
- Book a showroom visit: Call to arrange a time, especially useful if you already know which samples you want pulled out ready - Michael or Emma will set aside proper time rather than rushing you round.
- Handle the materials: Work through the cabinet door, worktop, flooring and hardware samples that suit your style and budget, checking how they open, feel and catch the light.
- Stress-test in the comparison area: Try scratching, spilling and cleaning samples side by side to see how each material actually copes with day-to-day family life, not just how it looks new.
- Borrow samples for home: Take up to 5 samples away for up to 5 days against a small refundable deposit, so you can see them against your own cabinetry, flooring and lighting rather than showroom spotlights.
- Return and refine: Bring the samples back, talk through what worked and what didn't, and narrow everything down to a combination that goes together and fits the budget.
- Move into full design: Once materials are settled, they're built into your CAD kitchen design and a full written quotation, with no obligation to go ahead until you're happy.
How the Main Worktop and Cabinet Materials Compare
| Material | Durability & Upkeep | Typical Price Position | Best Suited For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quartz | Tough, resists staining, low day-to-day maintenance | Mid-range | Busy family kitchens wanting a worry-free surface |
| Granite | Hard-wearing natural stone with unique veining, benefits from periodic sealing | Mid to higher | Period properties wanting a natural stone look with everyday practicality |
| Laminate | Good-value durability, but less resistant to heat and scratches than stone | Budget-friendly | Homeowners wanting a strong look without the stone price tag |
| Solid Wood | Warm and tactile, needs regular oiling to stay protected from spills | Mid to higher | Anyone happy to maintain a natural finish for the character it brings |

The People Behind the Samples You're Holding
Every worktop sample in the comparison area is finished the same way as the slab that eventually gets fitted - laser templated and cut in-house by our own stonemasons rather than ordered pre-cut from a catalogue, which is why the advice on sealing granite or living with an oiled solid-wood surface comes from people who do that work themselves. Cabinet door samples work the same way: the hinges you open and close in the showroom are hung by City & Guilds trained cabinet makers, so what you're handling is genuinely representative of what gets fitted, not a display piece from a separate supplier. We're not part of a national chain, so Michael or Emma - whoever shows you round the library - is also who you'll deal with through design and fitting, rather than being handed off to a different team once the sale's
made. We're proud members of the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), and whatever combination of materials you land on gets carried straight into a CAD design you can check before ordering, then fitted and backed by the same guarantees as any other kitchen we build.
Our Nottingham Workshop and the Areas We Cover
The material library and showroom operate from a dedicated regional workshop, with most visitors coming from Greater Nottingham - including West Bridgford, Wollaton, Beeston, Arnold and Sneinton, all areas the business has fitted kitchens in before. Coverage extends into Nottinghamshire towns such as Mansfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield and Stapleford, and across into Derbyshire, including Derby, Long Eaton, Alfreton and Heanor - roughly a 15-20 mile radius that stretches towards Chesterfield and the Derbyshire border. Because the take-home sample service means collecting and returning materials in person, it works best for anyone within a reasonable drive of the Nottingham showroom, and the same team that shows you round handles design, supply and fitting once you're ready to move ahead.
