If your Arnold kitchen still has solid, well-built cabinets but the doors have gone tired, chipped or dated in colour, painting or spraying them is often the more sensible route than tearing the whole kitchen out. It's a principle a lot of Arnold's housing stock lends itself to: many of the semis and terraces built during the area's inter-war and post-war expansion around Daybrook, Redhill and Killisick were fitted with solid carcasses that have outlasted several rounds of changing door fashions, from original wood-effect finishes through to the melamine and laminate doors so common by the 1980s and 90s.
A full respray in the workshop, or a masked-and-extracted finish carried out on-site for fitted units that can't be removed, gives those cabinets a factory-grade new colour without the disruption, mess and cost of stripping the kitchen back to bare walls. It won't fix a swollen or delaminating door, and it's a different job to fitting a brand new kitchen from scratch, but for sound cabinets that just need a new look, it's a quicker and considerably cheaper way to change how the whole room feels.
What's Included When We Paint an Arnold Kitchen
- Full removal of cabinet doors, drawer fronts and hardware before any preparation work starts
- Stripping and degreasing of the existing paint, laminate or melamine finish, then sanding to key the surface
- The correct primer for the existing substrate, especially important on melamine or laminate doors that reject standard paint
- Spraying or hand-finishing in the workshop using premium paint systems, built up in multiple coats
- On-site masking and dust extraction for fitted units and cabinet boxes that can't be taken away and finished off-site
- Custom colour mixing and matching, including test patches and samples before the main application goes ahead
- A protective topcoat for durability against everyday family kitchen use
- Refitting of doors and drawer fronts, plus new handles if you're changing them at the same time
- A final inspection and any touch-up work before the kitchen is handed back for normal use
Not Included / Costed Separately
- Painting doors that are damaged, swollen or delaminating - painting refreshes finishes on sound doors, it doesn't fix water damage or structural problems with the door itself
- New worktops, tiling or flooring - these can be coordinated around the painting schedule but are priced and carried out as separate work
- Structural changes to the kitchen layout, or moving units, sinks and appliances
- Vinyl wrapping - a different finish to painting, quoted separately if that's the route you'd rather take
- Colour changes requested after the final coat has gone on - achievable, but treated as an additional job with its own time and material cost
- New cabinet carcasses or a full kitchen refit - if the units themselves need replacing rather than refinishing, that's outside the scope of a painting project
Painting, Wrapping or Full Replacement: Which Suits Your Arnold Kitchen
| Option | Typical cost for a full kitchen | Time to complete | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cabinet painting/spraying | £800-£3,500 | 2-7 days | Solid, sound doors where you want a genuine colour change with a durable, workshop-grade finish |
| Vinyl wrapping | Quoted separately depending on door style | Usually quicker than painting | Simple, flat-fronted doors where speed matters more than colour flexibility or long-term durability |
| Full kitchen replacement | From around £5,000 | Weeks rather than days - covers design, manufacture and full installation | Cabinets that are damaged, the wrong layout, or beyond what refinishing can achieve |
A Family Team That's Been Refinishing Kitchens Like Yours for Over 20 Years
We've been designing, fitting and refinishing kitchens across Nottingham and the wider East Midlands for over 20 years, and have completed more than 800 kitchens for local homeowners - everything from tricky Victorian terraces in the Lace Market to modern city-centre apartments and, closer to Arnold, the standard three-bed semis that make up so much of the borough. We're not a national franchise sending out whoever's free that week; you deal directly with the same family-run team from the first visit through to the final coat. Door and drawer removal, substrate prep and refitting is carried out by City & Guilds trained master craftsmen, so hinges, soft-close mechanisms and alignment go back together properly rather than being rushed. Every job starts with a written agreement setting out the full cost before any masking tape goes up, so there's nothing extra to find once the spray gun's already out, and the finished work is covered by a 5-year guarantee on labour and installation plus a 2-year guarantee on the products used, with formal sign-off once you've had the chance to check it over.
Painting and Spraying Kitchens Across Arnold, Daybrook and Redhill
Arnold is one of the areas closest to our workshop that we're in and out of regularly - from the older housing around Front Street and Arnot Hill Park through to the newer estates toward Killisick and Redhill. Because doors and cabinet boxes usually travel back to the workshop for spraying rather than being finished entirely on-site, being a short run down the A60/Nottingham Road corridor into the city keeps turnaround realistic rather than adding days onto a job for travel alone. We also cover the Daybrook and Woodthorpe side of the borough, and take on work further out toward Calverton, as part of the wider Greater Nottingham area we serve alongside West Bridgford, Wollaton, Beeston and Sneinton.
