How the Trades Are Sequenced On Your Kitchen
- Sequencing and booking every trade the renovation needs - joiners, plumbers, electricians, gas engineers, plasterers, tilers and decorators - so each one starts only once the previous stage is genuinely finished
- Ordering, tracking and checking cabinets, worktops and appliances against the agreed specification before they're signed for on site
- On-site quality checks at each stage rather than a single inspection once everything's boxed in
- A single point of contact who deals with suppliers and tradespeople on your behalf instead of you fielding calls from each one
- Liaising with building control where structural work such as removing a wall is involved, and keeping the paperwork trail for it
- A written agreement before work starts, and a formal sign-off with a written installation warranty once it's finished
Not Included / Costed Separately
- The build itself - materials, cabinets, worktops and appliances - is quoted and costed separately from the coordination work, so your written quotation sets both out clearly
- Structural alterations such as removing a load-bearing wall need their own building regulations application, and sometimes a structural engineer's calculations, arranged as part of the project rather than assumed as standard
- Managing trades or suppliers sourced independently, outside the project, sits outside the standard service - worth raising at the initial visit if that's your situation
- Kitchens with us typically start from around £5,000 for design, supply and installation together; a full write-up of what a smaller job would cost needs a site visit
Doing It Yourself vs Having Us Run Your Kitchen Project
| What Needs Managing | Managing It Yourself | Project Managed By Us |
|---|---|---|
| Booking trades in the right order | You call around joiners, plumbers, electricians, gas engineers, plasterers, tilers and decorators and hope the sequence holds | One team books and sequences every trade so each arrives once the previous stage is actually done |
| Checking qualifications and safety sign-off | You check each tradesperson's own certification individually - Gas Safe, Part P, NVQ - before letting them near your kitchen | Plumbing, electrical and gas work is carried out by our own NVQ/City & Guilds, Part P approved and Gas Safe registered specialists as standard |
| Seeing the design before committing | Relies on a showroom display or a sketch that may not match your actual room | CAD and interactive floor-planning software shows a photo-realistic view of your own kitchen before any work is booked |
| If a supplier or trade lets you down | You're the one chasing a replacement and absorbing the delay | A replacement is found and booked so the schedule and your household routine are disrupted as little as possible |
| Cover once the work is done | Warranty depends on each individual tradesperson or supplier you used | One written installation warranty, with a 5-year guarantee on labour and installation and a 2-year guarantee on products |
Where a Kitchen Project Actually Goes Wrong (and How We Stop It)
The point where most self-managed kitchen renovations lose time isn't the trades themselves, it's the handover between them. A plasterer can't skim neatly around cabinets that haven't been fitted yet; a stone worktop can't be templated until the units are in, scribed and level; and appliances can't go in until that worktop's been cut and jointed. Get that order wrong, or leave each trade to work out for itself when the last one actually finished, and a job that should take three weeks stretches to six, with tradespeople standing idle or booked elsewhere when you need them. We plan that sequence before the first fitter turns up: our own plumbers only start first-fix once the layout's confirmed, plastering only starts once carcasses are fixed and level, and worktop templating is booked for the day the units go in rather than guessed weeks in advance. If a delivery runs late or a trade has to come back to fix a snag, that's a scheduling problem for us to absorb rather than something that lands back on you to chase up.
Why Reach Matters When You're Coordinating Multiple Trades
A managed kitchen project means several site visits, not one - the initial survey, a check partway through once first fix is done, and final sign-off - so how easily we can get back to a property matters as much as its postcode. We're based in Nottingham and run projects across Greater Nottingham (West Bridgford, Wollaton, Beeston, Arnold and Sneinton), out to Mansfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield and Stapleford in Nottinghamshire, and Derby, Long Eaton, Alfreton and Heanor in Derbyshire - roughly a 15-20 mile radius reaching towards Chesterfield and the Derbyshire border. A good number of our Lace Market and city-centre projects are Victorian terraces or converted apartments, where a structural change can mean liaising with building control over uneven period floors and older foundations - something a newer build further out rarely needs. Properties along the NET tram corridor through Beeston and Clifton are just as easy for us to reach for those repeat visits, from the first trade booking through to the final one.
Kitchen Project Management Questions From Nottingham Homeowners
Do you design the kitchen as well as managing the installation?
Yes. Before any work is booked in, we use CAD and interactive floor-planning software to show you a photo-realistic view of your own kitchen with the layout, units and finishes you're considering, so you can see how it will actually look in your room before committing to anything.
What guarantee do I get once the project is finished?
Every completed kitchen gets a formal sign-off and a written installation warranty. Labour and installation are covered by a 5-year guarantee, and the products themselves - cabinets, worktops and fittings - carry a 2-year guarantee, so if something isn't right after you've moved back in, it's covered.
Is finance available for a kitchen renovation?
Kitchens with us typically start from around £5,000 depending on size and specification, and flexible finance is available through an FCA-regulated finance partner, subject to status, if you'd rather spread the cost. A site visit gets you a proper written quotation to work from rather than a guess.
Will I need planning permission or building regulations approval?
A straightforward like-for-like kitchen refit doesn't usually need planning permission. Structural work - taking out a load-bearing wall, for example, or extending the room - does need building regulations sign-off, and listed buildings or conservation areas can bring extra restrictions to work through. We handle the paperwork trail for building control as part of the project rather than leaving you to sort it separately.
Who actually carries out the plumbing, electrics and gas work?
Plumbing and appliance connections are handled by NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds qualified plumbers, electrical infrastructure by Part P approved electricians with full safety certification, and any gas hob or range connection by Gas Safe registered engineers. Carpentry and cabinet fitting is done by City & Guilds trained craftsmen, so each trade on site is qualified for the specific job it's doing.
