If a Nottingham kitchen worktop is cracked, badly stained or just looks tired against newer units, replacing it is often more cost-effective long-term than repeated patch repairs. This page sets out the scope, process and cost detail homeowners usually want before booking a worktop replacement, alongside our guide to choosing the right material for your kitchen worktop. As Nottingham Kitchen Fitter, we fit new worktops both as part of full kitchen installs and as standalone replacements where the existing cabinets are staying put.

What a Worktop Replacement Covers

  • Removing the old worktop and disposing of it under our registered waste carrier licence
  • Laser templating for granite, quartz, marble, Corian and Dekton for a precise, seamless fit
  • Measuring and cutting laminate worktops to size
  • Cutting out and finishing spaces for sinks, hobs and other appliances
  • Fitting the new worktop, sealing joints and edging
  • Reattaching fixtures such as taps and trims once the worktop is in place

Not Included / Costed Separately

  • Replacing the cabinets or carcasses underneath - that's a fuller kitchen refit, not a worktop swap
  • Moving plumbing or electrical points to a new position (reconnecting what's already there is included, relocating it isn't)
  • Structural work to walls or floor levels needed to accommodate a different worktop thickness
  • Repairing a worktop that doesn't actually need replacing - we'll say so on the site visit rather than sell an unnecessary job
What a Worktop Replacement Covers

How a Worktop Replacement Is Carried Out

  1. Initial call or home visit -- We look at the existing worktop and cabinets, talk through material options and give an idea of cost and timescale.
  2. Templating and measuring -- Stone and engineered surfaces are laser templated on site for an exact fit; laminate is measured directly ready for cutting.
  3. Cutting -- Granite, quartz, marble and sintered surfaces are cut in-house by our stonemasons; laminate is cut to size ahead of the fitting visit.
  4. Removing the old worktop -- The existing worktop is stripped out and taken away under our registered waste carrier licence.
  5. Fitting and finishing -- The new worktop is fitted, joints sealed, appliance cut-outs finished, and fixtures reattached.
  6. Sign-off -- We check the finished job with you and issue a written installation warranty.

What Worktop Replacement Costs

Cost is driven mainly by material and the amount of worktop being covered rather than a flat rate. Laminate sits at the affordable end and is the cheapest option to replace like-for-like. Granite and quartz cost more, reflecting both the material itself and the templating and specialist cutting they need. Marble sits at the top of the range and also carries an ongoing sealing and maintenance cost once it's fitted. Sintered surfaces such as Corian and Dekton are priced closer to natural stone than to laminate. These figures move with the size and shape of your worktop, so a firm price needs a site visit - we provide a free home visit and a full written quotation with no hidden extras before any work is booked.

Comparing Worktop Materials

Material Cost bracket Heat & scratch resistance Maintenance Good fit for
Laminate Lowest cost Can scratch or scorch; damage isn't repairable, only replaceable Wipe clean, no sealing needed Budget-conscious kitchens, widest colour choice
Granite Mid-to-high High resistance to heat, scratches and stains Needs periodic resealing Busy family kitchens wanting a natural stone look
Quartz (engineered) Mid-to-high Very high scratch resistance, non-porous No sealing needed Low-maintenance stone look with consistent colour
Marble Highest Porous; prone to staining and scratching without care Regular sealing and upkeep Statement kitchens where appearance outweighs upkeep
Sintered surfaces (Corian, Dekton) High Extremely heat and scratch resistant Minimal maintenance Ultra-durable, modern handleless kitchens

Why Nottingham Homeowners Use Us for Worktop Replacement

Worktop replacement on its own can be as fiddly as fitting a full kitchen, especially with heavy stone or an awkward cut-out around a sink or hob. Our stonemasons laser template and cut granite, quartz, marble and sintered surfaces like Corian and Dekton in-house before fitting them seamlessly on site, rather than sending measurements out to a third-party supplier. We're family-run, not a national chain, so the same team that visits to measure your worktop also fits it, backed by over 20 years working on kitchens across Nottingham and the East Midlands and 800+ completed jobs. The old worktop is removed and disposed of under our registered waste carrier licence, every job gets a written installation warranty, and labour and installation are covered by a 5-year guarantee, with products covered for 2 years. We're also members of the Construction Industry Training Board and the Federation of Small Businesses.

Areas We Cover for Worktop Replacement

We fit worktops across Nottingham and the wider East Midlands, on jobs ranging from tricky Victorian terraces in the Lace Market to modern apartments near the city centre - property age matters here, since older units and uneven walls in period conservation properties affect how tightly a stone worktop can template against the wall. Coverage extends across Greater Nottingham (West Bridgford, Wollaton, Beeston, Arnold, Sneinton), into Nottinghamshire (Mansfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Stapleford) and Derbyshire (Derby, Long Eaton, Alfreton, Heanor), roughly a 15-20 mile radius reaching toward Chesterfield and the Derbyshire border.

Worktop Replacement Questions From Nottingham Homeowners

How do I know if my worktop needs replacing rather than repairing?

Cracks and chips can harbour bacteria and burns leave an uneven surface, so once damage is extensive, replacement is usually cheaper long-term than repeated patch repairs. A short home visit gives a straight answer on which makes more sense for your worktop rather than guessing from a photo.

Can you replace just the worktop without changing my cabinets?

Yes, this is a common job where the cabinets are still in good condition and only the worktop has dated or been damaged. We'll check on the site visit that the carcasses can take the weight of your chosen material, which matters most with heavier stone.

How long does a worktop replacement take?

Laminate can sometimes be measured and fitted in a shorter timeframe than stone. Granite, quartz and marble need a separate laser templating visit before the material is cut off site, so allow for at least two visits: templating, then fitting once the worktop is ready.

Do I need to empty my kitchen before you start?

Clear the worktop surface itself and anything stored in the wall units directly above it. Base cabinets underneath can generally stay as they are while the old worktop comes off and the new one is fitted.

What happens to my old worktop?

It's removed and taken away as part of the job under our registered waste carrier licence, so there's no need to arrange separate disposal.

Is a stone worktop more disruptive to fit than laminate?

It typically needs one extra visit. Stone and engineered surfaces are laser templated on site first, then cut in-house by our stonemasons before a separate fitting visit, whereas laminate can sometimes be measured and cut more quickly.

Do you offer a warranty on the new worktop and its installation?

Yes. Labour and installation are covered by a 5-year guarantee and products by a 2-year guarantee, and every job ends with a written installation warranty once we've signed it off with you.

Will replacing my worktop add value to my home?

A well-fitted, good-quality worktop is one of the details buyers notice in a kitchen, and durable materials like granite or quartz tend to hold their appeal longest. It's one factor among several though, so treat it as a genuine home improvement rather than a guaranteed valuation boost.
