If you're weighing up worktop options for a Nottingham kitchen project, quartz is worth serious consideration alongside granite, marble and laminate. It's an engineered surface rather than a single slab cut straight from a quarry, which is what gives it the strength, colour consistency and easy-clean surface described above, and it suits a period Lace Market terrace kitchen just as well as a new-build in West Bridgford. For a fuller breakdown of what a slab is likely to cost, see our page on the cost of quartz worktops, and if you're still deciding on a look, our guide to quartz worktop styles, colours and design options covers the choices in more depth.

We supply and fit quartz kitchen worktops as part of a full kitchen installation or as a standalone worktop replacement, laser-templating your actual cabinets rather than working from a generic size, so the joins and cut-outs line up on the day it's fitted.

What's Included When We Template and Fit a Quartz Worktop

  • A free home visit to measure your kitchen and go through quartz colours, patterns and edge profiles
  • Laser templating of your actual cabinets once they're in position, not a generic size
  • In-house cutting of the quartz slab, including sink, hob and tap cut-outs
  • Seamless on-site jointing by our stonemasons where more than one slab section is needed
  • Removal of your old worktop
  • Fitting of matching upstands or splashbacks where these are specified in your quote

Not Included / Costed Separately

  • Full cabinet replacement -- this is priced and scheduled as a separate service, or bundled into a full kitchen project
  • Edge profile upgrades beyond the standard finish, which add to the cost
  • Plumbing or gas reconnection work beyond what's agreed in your written quote
  • Disposal of the old worktop, unless arranged in advance under our registered waste carrier licence
  • Structural alterations to cabinets needed to accommodate an unusual layout -- identified and priced at the home visit, not added on afterwards

From First Measure to Finished Worktop

  1. Free home visit -- We measure your kitchen, talk through quartz colours, patterns and edge options, and leave you with a written, no-obligation quotation.
  2. Design confirmation -- Once you're happy with the quote, we confirm the layout using CAD and interactive floor-planning software so you can see the worktop in your kitchen before anything is ordered.
  3. Laser templating -- With your cabinets in position, we take a laser template of the actual space, including every cut-out and joint, so the slab is cut to fit your kitchen rather than a standard size.
  4. Cutting and preparation -- Your quartz slab is cut in-house to the template, with sink, hob and tap cut-outs prepared before it reaches site.
  5. Fitting -- Our stonemasons fit and joint the worktop on site, seal any joins, and fit upstands or splashbacks where these are part of the job.
  6. Sign-off -- We check the finished worktop with you, hand over a written installation warranty, and formally sign the job off.

What a Quartz Worktop Adds to Your Kitchen Budget

Quartz costs more upfront than laminate but usually less than premium marble, and the actual figure moves with slab choice, colour, thickness and edge profile, as well as how much cutting and jointing your layout needs. As a broad reference point, full kitchen projects through us start from around £5,000, with flexible finance available through an FCA-regulated partner, subject to status. A worktop-only job costs less than a full kitchen, but the only way to get an accurate figure for your own kitchen is a home visit, where we can see the layout, take rough measurements and talk through slab options before putting a written quotation together -- there's no obligation to go ahead once you've seen it.

Quartz Compared With Other Worktop Materials

Material Sealing Needed Heat Resistance Pattern
Quartz (engineered) None -- non-porous surface Withstands brief contact with hot pans, trivets still advised Consistent, engineered pattern repeats accurately across the slab
Granite (natural stone) Periodic resealing Naturally heat resistant Unique to each slab, no two pieces identical
Marble (natural stone) Periodic resealing, more porous than granite Heat tolerant but can etch or stain from acidic spills Individual veining, prized for character but less consistent
Laminate None, but the surface can peel or chip over time Damaged by direct heat Printed pattern, the most affordable option but the least durable
Sintered surfaces (Corian, Dekton) None Very high heat resistance Highly consistent, among the toughest surfaces we fit

Nottingham's Own Stonemasons, Not a Subcontracted Supplier

We've been designing and fitting kitchens across Nottingham and the wider East Midlands for over 20 years, as a family-run business rather than a national chain, and have completed 800+ kitchens for local homeowners -- everything from tricky Victorian terraces in the Lace Market to modern apartments near the city centre. Our stone and engineered worktop work, including the laser templating, in-house cutting and on-site jointing for quartz, granite, marble and sintered surfaces like Corian and Dekton, is carried out by our own stonemasons rather than passed to a separate subcontractor, so the same business that measures your kitchen is the one that fits it. You'll see your worktop and cabinetry in CAD before committing to anything, get a written agreement with no hidden fees before work starts, and a formal sign-off with a written installation warranty when it's finished -- a 5-year guarantee on labour and installation, 2 years on products. We're also members of the Construction Industry Training Board and the Federation of Small Businesses.

Where We Fit Quartz Worktops

Nottingham is our base, and we fit quartz worktops throughout the city and its suburbs, including Wollaton, Beeston, Arnold, Sneinton and West Bridgford. Delivering a cut quartz slab across the River Trent to West Bridgford or Wilford is a routine part of our round, and the NET tram corridor through Beeston and Clifton is a good marker for how far our mobile installation coverage reaches on the south side of the city. In the Lace Market and other older parts of the city, floors and walls are rarely perfectly square, so we always template on site once your cabinets are in position rather than working from a plan. Beyond Nottingham we cover Nottinghamshire towns including Mansfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield and Stapleford, and into Derbyshire as far as Derby, Long Eaton, Alfreton, Heanor and Chesterfield, taking on larger installations further afield into Sheffield, Wakefield and York.

Quartz Worktop Questions From Nottingham Homeowners

How long does it take to fit a quartz worktop?

Fitting itself is usually done in a day once your slab has been cut off-site to the laser template. The bigger factor is how long the slab takes to arrive and be cut after templating, which depends on the colour and supplier you choose -- we'll give you a realistic fitting date once you've picked your quartz.

Can a chipped or cracked quartz worktop be repaired?

Small chips can often be filled and polished by a specialist so they're barely visible, but quartz doesn't repair as invisibly as timber. A deep crack or heat-shock damage from a very hot pan placed directly on the surface may mean replacing that section rather than patching it, which is one reason we still recommend trivets even though quartz handles brief heat contact well.

Do I need to reseal a quartz worktop like a granite or marble one?

No. Quartz is non-porous, so it doesn't need sealing or resealing at any point, unlike granite and marble, which need periodic resealing to keep their stain resistance. This is one of the main reasons homeowners choose quartz over natural stone.

Can you fit a new quartz worktop onto my existing kitchen cabinets?

Yes, a worktop replacement doesn't require new units. We laser-template your existing cabinets on site, so as long as they're level, sound and at a workable height, we can cut and fit a quartz worktop to them as a standalone job.

Is quartz a good choice for a period or Victorian kitchen?

It works well in older properties, including the Victorian terraces we regularly fit in the Lace Market. Because quartz is engineered, we can also match a pattern that echoes the look of granite or marble if that suits a period kitchen better than a very uniform modern finish. The one difference is that older walls and floors are rarely square, so templating happens on site once your cabinets are fitted rather than from a plan.

How much does a quartz kitchen worktop cost?

It depends on the slab you choose, the edge profile, thickness and how much cutting and jointing your layout needs, so we don't quote a fixed price without seeing the kitchen. As a general guide, full kitchen projects through us start from around £5,000, with finance available through an FCA-regulated partner, subject to status. A worktop-only job costs less -- a home visit gets you an accurate written quotation with no obligation.

Can I have just the worktop replaced, or does it have to be part of a full kitchen refit?

A standalone worktop replacement is a common job for us -- you don't need to replace your cabinets to fit a new quartz worktop, provided the existing units are in good enough condition to template and fit to.
